: Web site which looks into global issues that affect everyone.
The website is owned by Anup Shah who grew up and studied in the UK. When he moved to the US for work after graduating from university he started to gain an interest in global issues. And then – in 1998 – started the GlobalIssues.org. Spread over all his articles, there are over 7,000 links to external articles, web sites, reports and analysis to help provide credence to the arguments made on his web site. You can find here...
And what you can read at the GlobalIssues website? For example an article about arms trade. „The arms trade is one of the most corrupt trades in the world, fueling conflict and poverty. Since the early 1990s there has been efforts to review and develop arms-transfer principles and codes of conduct to ensure that arms are not sold to human rights violators...“ say the author.
There is an interesting article about global financial crisis as well. You can read there: „Some of the bail-outs have also led to charges of hypocrisy due to the apparent socializing of the costs while privatizing the profits. Furthermore, the institutions being rescued are typically the ones got the world into this trouble in the first place. For smaller businesses and poorer people, such options for bail out and rescue are rarely available when they find themselves in crisis.“
Or you are interested in obesity? Even about it you can read at GlobalIssues: „The number of people overweight or obese is now rivaling the number of people suffering from hunger around the world. Obese people were thought to be mainly from richer countries or wealthier segments of society, but poor people can also suffer as the food industry supplies cheaper food of poorer quality.“A few last words
For over 8 years, the site has been kept free from advertisements, funded from own pocket of its owner, and worked on in his spare time only. Previous donation offers have also been declined. „This often means I typically work on this site during very late hours, which is hard to keep up,“ says the owner. If you have found his site to be useful, you may consider a donation.
